The .22 Long Rifle (LR) was introduced by the Stevens Arms Company in 1887 and evolved from the .22 Long and .22 Extra Long cartridges. Combining the .22 Long case with a 40-grain bullet, it offered excellent accuracy, low recoil, and affordability. Quickly adopted for hunting, sport shooting, and training, it became the world’s most popular cartridge. Its versatility, minimal recoil, and vast firearm compatibility have ensured enduring global success for over a century.
